If you didn’t read my whole intro from part 1, then guess what? You should probably go back and read, here’s the link: https://courtsidetakes.com/2018/03/14/my-2018-march-madness-picks-part-1-the-dirty-south/. If you didn’t read the title, I will be going through the Mid-West region of the bracket, aka the Heartland, aka America’s Breadbasket. And yes i did copy this intro from the second part of my bracket picks and you should read it, here’s the link: courtsidetakes.com/2018/03/14/my-2018-march-madness-picks-part-2-the-wild-west/. Now lets get started

Round of 64

#1 Kansas vs #16 Penn, While I do like Penn I also don’t believe a 16 seed will ever beat a 1 seed; Kansas

#8 Seton Hall vs #9 NC State, Honestly I don’t know shit about either of these teams so i’m going with the ACC team; NC State

#5 Clemson vs #12 New Mexico State, I’ve been told that New Mexico can’t shoot free throws, which is generally important; Clemson

#4 Auburn vs #13 Charleston, I do believe this will be a very close game and was highly considering the upset however i went with my brain; Auburn

#6 TCU vs #11 ASU/Syracuse, Doesn’t matter who wins the play in game I like TCU’s veteran squad and coach a lot; TCU

#3 Michigan State vs #14 Bucknell, I’m not picking against the best coach, Tom Izzo, he rarely loses to teams that he should beat; Michigan State

#7 URI vs #10 Oklahoma, Trae Young is a flat out beast and i think he keeps this game close but URI is better, i am scaried of this pick though; URI

#2 Duke vs #15 Iona, I hate Duke with all my heart, every time i see Grayson Allen i puke a little but they’re winning this game; DUKE

Round of 32

#1 Kansas vs #9 NC State, this will be a very close game but Devonte’ Graham and Malik Newman are beasts and will win this game; Kansas

#4 Auburn vs #5 Clemson, I’d probably pick Clemson if their best player didn’t get injured earlier in the year, and I’ve gotta go for Charles Barkley’s Alma Mater; Auburn

#3 Michigan State vs #6 TCU, Sorry TCU but your season ends here because Tom Izzo is a beast and you won’t beat him; Michigan State

#2 Duke vs #7 URI, I really hate Duke and would pick against them but URI doesn’t have a player taller than 6’8, so Marvin Bagley will eat them alive; DUKE

Sweet Sixteen

#1 Kansas vs #4 Auburn, Auburn is very good but Kansas is better and more experienced in the tourney so I felt this was an easy pick, sorry Auburn; Kansas

#2 Duke vs #3 Michigan State, I’m pretty sure these two teams opened their seasons against one another and Duke obviously edged them out, but this Michigan State team will be hungry for revenge; Michigan State

Elite Eight

#1 Kansas vs #3 Michigan State, While Kansas’ guard play is better than Michigan State’s, Michigan State’s bigs are much much better than Kansas’ and Tom Izzo is the man. Congratulations Michigan State you have made it yet another Final Four thanks to your fearless leader Tom Izzo; Michigan State

Michigan State will be representing the Mid-West in San Antonio in about 3 weeks, Congrats Tom Izzo!

My 2018 March Madness Picks Part 2: The Wild West

If you didn’t read my whole intro from part 1, then guess what? You should probably go back and read, here’s the link: https://courtsidetakes.com/2018/03/14/my-2018-march-madness-picks-part-1-the-dirty-south/. However if you don’t want to that’s fine to, but basically I’m giving you my 2018 March Madness picks so you can win your bracket pulls and hopefully some money. If you didn’t read the title, I will be going through the Western region of the bracket, aka The Wild West.

Round of 64

#1 Xavier vs #16 NCC/TS, Honestly it doesnt matter who wins the play in game cause Xavier is gonna spank there ass in the 1st round; Xavier

#8 Missouri vs #9 Florida State, Missouri is a lock, got back number one recruit Michael Porter Jr. last week and he will be the best player on the court; Missouri

#5 Ohio State vs #12 South Dakota State, OSU has a young good coach, but sadly he hasn’t been to the dance before; South Dakota State

#4 Gonzaga vs #13 UNCG, Honestly Gonzaga is an under seeded team this year and i expected them to dominant in round 1; Gonzaga

#6 Houston vs #11 San Diego State, SDSU is peaking at the right time and expect them to continue it against the AAC runner-ups; San Diego State

#3 Michigan vs #14 Montana, Another hot team entering the, I expect the BIG 10 champs to go far this year; Michigan

#7 Texas A&M vs #10 Providence, I’m gonna be honest… i flipped a coin to decide this game due to my lack of interest in either team; Texas A&M

#2 North Carolina vs #15 Lipscomb, Yet another small school that i didn’t think was real, like seriously Lipscomb?; North Carolina

Round of 32

#1 Xavier vs #8 Missouri, Xavier is by far the weakest one seed and Michael Porter Jr is by far better than any of their players; Missouri

#4 Gonzaga vs #12 South Dakota State, Sorry South Dakota but Gonzaga is to smart and good to lose to you but congrats for beating OSU; Gonzaga

#3 Michigan vs #11 San Diego State, I’m gonna keep riding Michigan’s momentum and say that this is a blowout win; Michigan

#2 UNC vs #7 Texas A&M, based on my lack of Texas A&M knowledge I expect a very good UNC team to beat them comfortable; North Carolina

Sweet Sixteen

#4 Gonzaga vs #8 Missouri, Gonzaga continues it’s cake walk to the final four being that you can’t beat them with one individual player, their to smart and to good for that; Gonzaga

#North Carolina vs #3 Michigan, As much as i love UNC and i generally pick them to get far every year, this year is just sadly not their year. Michigan is to hot; Michigan

Elite Eight

#3 Michigan vs #4 Gonzaga; Michigan matches up very well with Gonzaga, and frankly I don’t see Gonzaga making it to two final fours in a row ever. So i’m gonna keep picking the very hot wolverines to make it to the final four for the first time since Trey Burke put the team on his back; Michigan

Congrats Michigan, get your plane tickets to San Antonio

My 2018 March Madness Picks Part 1: The Dirty South

It’s once again the best time of the year for most normal human beings, and as tradition millions of people nation wide make under the table bets and fill out brackets. As per usual, I will also be participating in March Madness, the greatest sports tournament of all time, and hopefully will win a billion dollars, courtesy of my man Warren Buffet. But don’t feel bad, I’m giving you the opportunity to make some money and beat your friends by giving you my full march madness bracket picks.

Generally my picks are made from a combination of Vegas betting lines, what I saw from the few NCAA games I’ve watched this year, and pure gut feeling due to my lack of knowledge of about 75% percent of the teams in the tourney. This year doesn’t differ, i made my bracket Sunday night, than modified it a bit on Monday when Vegas released the lines, and now will remain unchanged. So here you go, the official 2018 March Madness Bracket of @courtsidevp

Part 1, The Dirty South:

Round of 64:

#1 Virginia vs #16 UMBC, didn’t even know UMBC was a college and I’m not stupid; Virginia

#8 Creighton vs #9 Kansas State, Kansas State’s two best players are questionable for the game and Creighton’s aren’t; Creighton

#5 Kentucky vs #12 Davidson, As much as I want to pick Davidson I can’t bet against Johnny Cal in march; Kentucky

#4 Arizona vs #13 Buffalo, Arizona is the most talented 4 seed in the tourney and Buffalo won’t stand a chance; Arizona

#6 Miami vs #11 Loyola-Chicago, Loyola-Chicago will be my first round lock for the South due to the little research; Loyola-Chicago

#3 Tennessee vs #14 Wright State, I’m gonna be honest I don’t know anything about Tennessee but I’m gonna assume they win; Tennessee

#7 Nevada vs #10 Texas, Nevada somehow has a RPI rank of 19  and Shaka Smart’s coaching hasn’t translated very well; Nevada

#2 Cincinnati vs #15 Georgia State, I like Cincy a lot, i mean A LOT, and Georgia State doesn’t have a shooter like RJ Hunter this year; Cincy

Round of 32

#1 Virginia vs #8 Creighton, High tempo offense like Creighton’s don’t usually fair well against Virginia’s defense; Virginia

#4 Arizona vs #5 Kentucky, Somehow Arizona has more NBA talent than Johnny C’s squad so i think this is kinda an easy pick; Arizona

#3 Tennessee vs #11 Loyola-Chicago, The Cinderella team of 2018 will be Loyola-Chicago and they will trounce the Vols; Loyola-Chicago

#2 Cincinnati vs #7 Nevada, As i said before I really like Cincy this year, I’m not sure why i just do so I’m rollin with them; Cincy

Sweet Sixteen

#1 Virginia vs #4 Arizona, Every year it  seems like Virginia is super good in the regular season but then gets bounced in the tourney at about this time and Arizona is a super talented offensive force lead by top 5 pick DeAndre Ayton; Arizona

#2 Cincinnati vs #11 Loyola-Chicago, Sorry one of the many Loyola’s but your Cinderella run has come to an end because you’re not gonna be able to score against theses bear-cats; Cincy

Elite Eight

#2 Cincinnati vs #4 Arizona, While Arizona is a offensive juggernaut these bear-cats have the ability to stop them somewhat whilst still being able to put points on the board. As a result the Cincinnati Bear-Cats will win the South region and make their first final four since 1992; Cincy

Congrats Cincinnati you’ve earned it

Xavier v Cincinnati

The LeBron Sweepstakes 1.0

The self proclaimed “King” of the NBA has been leading his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers to an unprecedented 3rd seed in the east… yeah you heard that right, the fucking 3rd seed. Everybody talks about how the oh so wonderful LeBron James is the greatest basketball player in recorded history when the man can’t even lead his team to his usually 1st or 2nd best record in the conference. And I’m not even going to touch on the fact that he playing in a shitty eastern conference where he is getting beat by one, a shooting guard that can’t shoot by the name of Demar Derozan and two, his previous sidekick Kyrie who left him because he sees what I see in LeBron, a fraud.

I promised i would not make this into an anti-LeBron post, but it appears to be turning into that at a very alarming rate so i’m just going to say my usually spiel. LeBron is a fraudulent, self adsorbed drama queen that forces teams to give his friends crazy contracts while also pushing away the players with actually talent. On top of this, LeBron is the least clutch super star in the history of basketball who only has gotten to 8 straight finals because the best team he’s played in the eastern conference playoffs was a Paul George and Roy Hibbert lead Pacers team. I’ll end my rant there being that many believe LeBron is the GOAT and enough disrespecting the great Michael Jordan.

To get back on topic, this is the last year of LeBron’s contract with the Cavs and similar to the first time it expired Cleveland will be left in chaos when their soulless hometown hero ditches their ass and destroys his legacy yet again. This brings up the question, who will LeBron sign with this off-season. At this very moment teams are entering what I have called the LeBron Sweepstakes.

1.) Cleveland Cavaliers: I’ve only put them in here because i feel bad for them. They are about to get essentially broken up with their first love for the second time, and they know it. As a result they have made no attempt to get him back, instead began preparing for the future by trading Kyrie? Good luck Cleveland.

2.) LA Lakers: For some reason unbeknownst to me, the Lakers seem to be in every big name free agent’s list of teams to play for but hilariously are crossed off said list early in the process. But this time the Lakers have gone with a new strategy, cut some what expensive promising young players and buy a build board. While I would love for LeBron to go to LA and become a Big Baller, it probably won’t happen.

3.) Philadelphia Sixers: It pains me to but the Sixers on this listen being that I hate LeBron and he would basically destroy one of the things I truly love in this world. However, we are in the play for LeBron. We have a bunch of young talent and money, plus LeBron has already began to look at private schools in the area for Bron Jr. In addition we were the first to acquire a Bill Board for the man, and being how chapped Sixers fans are we placed the thing in Cleveland. While I love this move Philly, i sadly can’t get behind being it could result in acquiring my mortal enemy.
